About the

Artist

Alan Bloom’s art captures the unique bond between humans and dogs. After his back surgery in 2017 and subsequent retirement in 2020, he began to explore his passion for painting, inspired by his wife Sue. His works combine the beauty of nature with canine companionship.

Having volunteered at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley (Colorado) for over twenty five years, Alan and Sue now live in Taos, NM with their two shelter dogs, Milo and Ripley. They continue their dedication to animal welfare by volunteering at Stray Hearts Animal Shelter.

Sipsie

Who is the dog in the paintings?

Sipsie was adopted from the Humane Society in Boulder when she was just a puppy.   She was (we think) a Whippet/Pit Bull mix and forty five pounds of solid muscle and speed. Sipsie was Alan’s constant companion in the studio and on road trips,  being the inspiration and constant observer for the subjects being painted. Sipsie crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2023 at the age of fifteen but her presence will always be in every painting.

for the love of…

Giving dogs a chance for a field trip out of the Shelter is important. Check out my public Facebook group, Pupaccino Pups, where I post photos of dogs that I take for rides around town, that includes a stop at a local coffee shop for a Pupaccino.
